Quilled Flowers Summer Bouquet

If you're like me, you suspiciously eye the most vivid colors of quilling paper that are often included in a multi-color package. I decided to push past my reluctance and tried combining them as a little bouquet. The neon orange was pretty shocking on its own, but I rather like how it looks with raspberry, mint green, and white.

On this first day of summer, my very favorite time of year, perhaps there's no better time to give brights a try. Happy Summer Solstice to everyone in the north and to those of you down south, here's hoping your winter will be a mild one!

By the way, here are my tried and true instructions for making folded paper roses.

  4. What a great idea to take inspiration from the colours in the quilling pack! I have often thought that a newly-bought twist of multi-coloured strips is a work of art in itself. Lovely design!

  5. Love it! I shy away from those colors, too, so thanks for trying this out and sharing the results. This is one of the reasons I like paper kits, because it can force you out of your comfort zone to try something new.

  6. You were very daring in using the bold colors and give me hope to try as well, rather than pass mine along to my nieces and nephews. It's the perfect vibrant combo for summer, and as always, exquisite execution! :)

  7. It's so pretty. I love the combination of colors. I've tried to fringed flowers but for some reason can't seem to get the hang of doing those. I love the look of them now if I could just figure them out :)

  8. That is just stunning. So pretty, and it really does remind me of summer, but not only that, a summer wedding. That looks like a great bouquet, and the background perhaps the shade for the bridesmaids to wear. Beautiful.

  9. Thanks so much everyone - you all are so nice!

Annie, I'm glad the rose tute will help you out.

Philippa, I know what you mean - a new pack of strips is inspiration in itself.

Deb, oh yes, I think kits are great for getting us to try new things too.

Ann, I'll be glad to help you out with this type of fringed flowers - let me know if you have questions. First, check out this tutorial: http://www.hearthandmade.com/2009/05/craft-101-fringed-flower-card.html
and then cut your strips at an angle along one edge to make the fringe lengths look uneven.

  10. Ann, I love your brights, they make a great combination and I just love your 'alternation side looping' technique you have used in the leaves, just perfect!
Your brights certainly brighten up our wintery days!
