Paper Sculpture Bird and Caterpillar - Diana Beltran Herrera

Diana Beltran Herrera is a young Colombian artist with a degree in Industrial Design. I happened upon her work while googling paper birds and couldn't wait to share it here, but which image to choose for this Fab Friday/one photo feature? Seriously, each and every one of Diana's paper creations is appealing!

baby and caterpillar.
Many of her sculptures are representations of actual birds, such as the colorful coppersmith barbet and great tits (stop snickering, that's their name :) but this particular photo features an imaginary baby bird. Diana conveys its young age through the use of downy feathers along with more typical (of her work) paper sculpture. The caterpillar is all paper... and I have a feeling if this was the real world, he would soon be lunch!

Diana told me she is passionate about birds, but because it's difficult to hold the ones she sees, she keeps them in her imagination until she's able to recreate them as paper models.

Her work will be featured as a part of an installation that artist Hanni Bjartalid will have in Iceland and Faroe Islands this coming autumn.
