Quilled Marriage Certificate

Recently I had the pleasure of quilling a marriage certificate for a May wedding.

The couple sent along an image of the elegantly detailed monogram that had been created for their wedding stationery by Ice Cream Social. [site is no longer available]

Marriage certificate - mongram design

Christine and Kenny didn't expect it to be recreated entirely in quilling, but they hoped I would be able to take inspiration from the design. The many flourishes lent themselves perfectly to paper filigree, and I was in my element while quilling scrollwork, initials, and individual details in the wedding's silver and sage green palette. My favorite metallic-edged paper from England added a bit of shine, such as the cherry atop each of the miniature ice cream cones.

Once again, I worked with Riva Brown of Living Letters Studio who did the beautiful calligraphy. She also drew nearly three hundred penciled lines where the bride, groom, and guests would place their signatures.

I appreciate the way Riva carefully mounts our collaborative certificates on core board covered with paper in a coordinating color. A flexible acrylic overlay rolls down from the top to protect the 22" x 30" certificate during shipment and allows it to be easily handled and displayed at the wedding and reception.

Many thanks to Kristen at PaperCrave for featuring this piece earlier in the month.

  1. Very beautiful. After all that work, they better have a happy marriage :)
Is the paper glued on some backing? I guess it has to be framed. Nice collaborative work too. In a way you are beating the etsy imposed lone crafter mandate by working together on different parts of the same project.

  8. Thanks so much everyone!

Glaudius, yes, it's meant to be framed after the wedding. Ribbons at the corners hold it in place for now on the temporary backing board. I'm very grateful to have Riva as a collaborator.

Karren, about the book, not yet, but thanks for inquiring. :) I'm not sure of the release date, but will post about it closer to the time.
