Art Books Giveaway and Rachel Hazell's PaperLove E-Course

Because I often review paper art and craft books, publishers send me titles they think will be of interest. The problem - truly a small one - is that my bookshelves are filling up fast. To remedy the situation, as well as share a bit of joy from my corner of the frozen tundra, I will be sending all four of these new and pristine titles to one lucky person!

More about the giveaway in a sec... first, let me introduce the books.

#artbooksgiveaway

Paul Rand, a designer of iconic logos, penned Thoughts on Design in 1947. The respected book was revised in 1970, but has been out of print for decades. Its recent re-release by Chronicle Books with a new foreword by graphic designer and design critic Michael Bierut finally gives present day creatives the opportunity to read Paul's reflections on good design.

Thoughts on Design and Pop-Up Designs Giveaway

Another well-known Paul - Paul Jackson - wrote Cut and Fold Techniques for Pop-Up Designs for those interested in fueling their paper crafting skills. It is the third of a series (I previously reviewed this title here and another Cut and Fold book here) and to date has received solid five stars on Amazon.

Art Before Breakfast Giveaway

Danny Gregory's Art Before Breakfast is a quick and fun read especially suited for busy people who love to draw and paint. It contains a wealth of simple ideas for finding just a few minutes each day to pursue your art.

Cat Postcards Giveaway

Lastly, this tablet of illustrated Cat Postcards from publisher Laurence King arrived out of the blue one day - well hey, they are paper and nice quality at that. Each tear-out postcard features a different feline... keep them for yourself or make a cat lover's day.

One more nice thing to highlight today...

Paper Collage Heart

Rachel Hazell, a paper artist and bookbinder in Edinburgh, Scotland, contacted me to introduce her five-week e-course, PaperLove. It begins on March 23 and is a combination of video tutorials, downloadable PDF instructions, and step-by-step photographs that lead participants on an enjoyable exploration of paper, collage, word, book, and mail. Structured like a blog, a new post is revealed each day and a video launches each week's main project.

PaperLove E-Course Kit
optional materials kit

The course would be ideal for those who are looking to jump-start their creativity, as well as meet others who share a love of paper. She has led the course previously in person and online, and each time creates a private Facebook group where participants share in-progress photos, finished creations, ideas, and encouragement. I was impressed with Rachel's friendly, conversational writing style in the project sampler, as well as her obvious heartfelt enthusiasm for paper as a creative medium.

The pop up cards are breath taking as is the quilled cello by Sena Runa. Irving Berlin pretty much sums how I feel about all of the creations covered in this blog, "Heaven, I'm in heaven."
