Dynamic Paper Sculpture Tori for Valentine's Day

Congratulations to Devblev, winner of the double prize!

You might recall a December post in which I featured Kris Koch, a photographer who creates art with paper... specifically the design and digital cutting of tori, which are uniquely layered 3D shapes. At the time, Kris was in the process of opening an Etsy shop Nature Nougat, which is now fully launched. To celebrate, she is offering a double prize giveaway to All Things Paper U.S. followers. I'll let Kris tell you about them.

Coral Paper Heart Torus

Wintertime in the upper-Midwest is usually pretty bleak, with little sun and a lot of clouds. With almost two full months of winter remaining, I know that I’ve been getting desperate for something other than gray! With that in mind, the Valentine torus I created for this giveaway is bright and richly colored.

Coral Heart Paper Torus

Cut from high quality cardstock in two shades of coral, it is accented with matching Swarovski crystals to add a bit of fire and flash. It measures about 6” in diameter by about 2” deep and has a metal eyelet for hanging along with an optional antique gold cord.

Framed Heart Torus

The second component of the giveaway is a framed black and white print of “Dream Heart Torus” from my new photography series “Ether.” In this series, I use long exposures and movement, either of the subject or the camera, to present a dynamic and layered interpretation. The movement creates luminosity, or translucent layers of light and dark around the edges. I love how it brings the subject to life. Tori are particularly interesting because of their symmetry. The photo is 8” x 8” set in a 12” x 12” black wooden frame with a white mat. It is ideal as a Valentine's Day gift, yet can be displayed all year long.

Coral Heart Paper Torus - Detail

In addition to photographing paper sculptures, I’ve created a few new Valentine’s designs that can be found in my Etsy shop, NatureNougat: Eye Candy Inspired by Nature. These include the Queen of Hearts Torus...
