Quilled World Map
Amber told me she became interested in quilling while growing up in Minnesota, but completed just one project. That was the end of it until she happened upon quilling again in a craft book and remembered how much she had enjoyed it. Amber practiced a bit and experimented with different papers to determine which types worked best.
She used the most basic tools... cardstock strips were cut with scissors, a nail served as a makeshift rolling tool, and a pen tip shaped the mountain peaks. Amber began by quilling land areas and filled in the water around them; large swirls represent ocean currents. After six months or so, Amber had completed a unique piece of wall art.
Thanks to fellow quiller Karren for introducing me to Amber's blog.
If you're interested in learning to quill, you'll find lots of basic instructions and ideas here.
Yet another great find Ann. Really inspiring work and that too with simple tools that are easily available.
ReplyDeleteAnn, what a wonderful original piece of quilling!! Do you know what the dimensions are of the quilled world map? I love the water areas, with the ocean currents. Amber has done many many hours of rolling in that piece!!!

Thank you for the compliment, the dimensions are 27cm x 50cm. I simply used a flattened cereal box for the base.... very crude!
DeleteThank you so much for this post. I want to let you know that I posted a link to your blog in Creative Busy Bee Craft Inspirations, under the Page 1 post on Aug. 27, 2012. Thanks again.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! It reminds me of my second quilled piece, which is also a map. I'm from Sweden as well, but I quilled my map while studying abroad in Scotland:

Hi Anushka, I'm glad you liked seeing Amber's art. Before posting photos other than your own on your blog, it's good to check with the artist first, or at least be sure to link to their website.
