Quilled Snowflakes Wedding Invitation

It's been a while since I've shared one of my own projects... I took a necessary break from quilling last fall while editing the book, but lately I've been enjoying catching up on wedding invitations. Luckily I had very patient brides! It's turned out to be a timely post too, as it's supposed to snow like mad here later today.

I wish you could see this invitation in person... the printed snowflakes sparkle with a holofoil coating, not to mention the heavy pearlized paper has a lovely sheen.

To quill the snowflakes I took cues from the printed ones and used a mix of plain white quilling paper and silver holofoil-edged white strips from J.J. Quilling Design (now called Katy Sue) in England. A selection is imported to the U.S. by Quilling Supply.

The edged white paper has a bluish cast that's quite nice as an accent against the plain strips. It makes me think of the sky reflecting on freshly fallen snow on a sunny day.

From the side, you can see the slight tint, but from straight-on the coils look either silver or multi-colored depending on the light and angle. Tricky to photgraph, but it's a fun paper to work with and I'm glad I had this opportunity to try it out.

  1. Lovely quilled snowflakes. We have real ones falling in D.C. area today as "Snowquester" moves in, our first blizzard this winter.

    1. Thanks Maureen. One nice things about snow in March is that it doesn't stay around for long!
