Quilled Retro Modern Wedding Shower Card

Today I have a new quilled card to show you. One of my sons is getting married this summer and a bridal luncheon was held for his fiancé this past weekend. While thinking up a card to make, I had the idea to do a retro-style design.

You see, like many young couples, she and he love retro decor - they've even placed my husband's old manual typewrite in their front hall as an objet d'art - and so it came to mind that she might get a kick out of vintage kitchen appliances. (I suppose this means I am vintage as well, but let's not go there...)

I had the best time quilling a blender, mixer, and toaster, complete with silver-edge paper knobs and power cords - crazy, I know, to spend so much time on a card, but it's fun having someone new join the family who is too polite to tell me not to give her handmade cards because then she'll have to keep them.*

I braided embroidery floss as a way to attach the Shower Power tag... a play on the early 70's catch phrase Flower Power. I realize it might be a new one to those of you who were just mere thoughts during that era. Long hair braids were popular back then too - guilty as charged - so there's another connection I hadn't thought of until now. Oh wait, forget that... hair and kitchens aren't the most tasteful of pairings if you get my drift...

Retro Bridal Shower Card and Envelope

Bits of confetti added to the festive feel, as did layers of vivid card stock... it's all about details when it comes to card making. I wrote a little sentiment inside and made an envelope from a sheet of computer paper and washi tape. Stick it with a fork; it's done.

    1. Hi Brenda, thanks for asking. I haven't written a pattern for this design yet, but perhaps I'll do that in the future.

  4. Congratulations! I love the card. The handmade card story is delightful too! A lot of my customers tell me that their family/friends have framed the cards I have made for them, but I do hate to think about the ones that were thrown away :( Enjoy the wedding!

    1. Thanks Cecelia! I love that you noticed the whisks. They're silver-edge paper - for realism, you understand. :-)
