7 Modern Paper Jewelry Trends

In case you're keeping count, between last week's post about six paper jewelry artisans and now seven more, we have a baker's dozen of creatives who are designing on-trend necklaces, earrings, brooches and bracelets. From nautical stripes, polka dots and tassels to geometrics, metallics, blush and neon, all are in style for spring and summer.

Woven Paper Brooches by Francesca Vitali

Francesca Vitali and I go back a long way...  I first wrote about the vibrant art jewelry she makes with recognizable flair my very first month of blogging in March 2009. (Happy 8th Anniversary to ATP!) Discarded magazines, maps, catalogs, and shopping bags are always useful, and sometimes Francesca prints text of favorite poems to cut into strips for weaving.

She often posts pics via Instagram and Facebook while readying stock to attend juried craft shows around the U.S. In fact, Francesca just won an Award of Excellence in Jewelry at Palm Beach Art Show over the weekend! Visit Francesca Vitali Paper Jewelry.

Speaking of being eco-friendly, Serait of Serait Creations on Instagram uses rice paper, watercolor and tiny accent beads to make pretty wearable art. The lively green of these monstera leaf earrings would be perfect on a tropical island or frankly, any summery locale.

'On gossamer wings' popped into my head the moment I spotted this stunning necklace of fluttering moths... at least that is what I'm reminded of. Tiny bells are the perfect finishing touch. Serait Creations is also on Facebook and she recently launched an Etsy shop, Serait Creations.

Paper Pendants by Serait Creations

I've been following the career of Alicja of BLURECO in Wiltshire, UK for several years and am always impressed by the environmentally-conscious items she creates.

Recycled Paper Cufflinks by BLURECO

You might recall Alicja's previous shop in which she sold surprisingly beautiful home decor items created from handmade woven paper straws of newspaper, advertisements and magazines. Alicja still uses discarded paper, but now works mainly with rolled paper and pulp. Cufflinks (above) would be an ideal first anniversary gift.

And earrings that feature pool blue paper beads would be lovely to wear this summer. See many more examples of Alicja's work via Etsy shop BLURECO and on Instagram where she is @blureco.paper.jewellery.

Tasseled Paper Pendant by Funky Fondled and Fresh

Tassels are a current fashion trend that has carried over to accessories. This geometric paper pendant with a silky gold tassel was made by Anelia Lazaroff Torres of Funky Fondled and Fresh in Los Angeles.

While Anelia started out as a visual artist who worked in a variety of mediums, she has always been interested in fashion. Her handmade jewelry features her own digital art and is fresh and modern. I enjoy following her on Instagram where she is @funkyfondledandfresh. Anelia recently shared this pic (above) of Rudi Earrings made with marbled, polka dot paper, available in her Etsy shop, Funky Fondled andFresh.

Sailor Collection Paper Jewelry by Pamphlet

Greta Bellini of Pamphlet in Italy is a creative I spotted on Instagram (@grepamphlet). Her work is very fun... nautical fish earrings and necklace with red leather touches and summery SailorPois striped and polka dot paper maché earrings.

Silver Leaf Paper Bead Earrings by Blossom and Shine

I've often shared the pretty jewelry made by Julie Dye of Blossom and Shine in Florida because it is always perfectly made with high quality materials. I love these elegant hammered silver leaf dangle earrings with beads of rolled Japanese paper.

Each durable bead is protected by glossy resin; Julie also uses them to make rings, bracelets and necklaces in a variety of styles. She is @blossomandshine on Instagram and Facebook, and her website is Blossom and Shine.
Golden Origami Earrings by Mayumi Origami

Lastly, Renata Mayumi of Mayumi Origami is another jewelry artist who has a knack for combining stylish findings with Japanese patterned papers. She recently completed a two-year jewelry course and this winter studied silversmithing and paper embellishment. She is also building a website and occasionally entices us with photos of newly folded designs, such as the golden metallic origami earrings above...

...and mosaic earring squares made with patterned paper that she personally designed. Watch this space for an upcoming Mayumi Origami giveaway to celebrate the new site launch, but until then, orders can be placed directly with Renata via her Etsy shop if you spot something you love. She will also make a custom piece for you... choose your favorite paper via FlipSnack. Renata is on Instagram.
