Best Paper Craft Kits and Printables for the Holidays
This time of year brings out the crafter in me... you too? I enjoy the busy-ness of projects that are useful as holiday decorations or gifts. And so I've rounded up eight creatives who make it easy for us to get started on festive fun by providing patterns and supplies in kit form, as well as instant printable downloads.
I met Severine Juillet of Lyon, France via Instagram where I admired her minimalistic quilled designs. In addition to paper cut succulents and framed names, she makes perfectly quilled ornaments that are available as kits in her Etsy shop, Brin de Sev [not currently stocked]. Quilled scrolls and puffy stars look so nice together!
A neat thing about the ornament kits is that Severine supplies a pre-made paper frame edged in the pearlescent color of your choice and you fill the interior. Instructions are in English or French and you'll have access to an instructional video.
Etsy shop Reading with Scissors, owned by Stephanie Pounds in Texas, features ready-made folded books, custom folded books, framed iris fold maps, as well as downloadable book folding patterns. New this season are holiday kits [currently not available, but contact Stephanie to inquire] that each feature a pattern and instruction book. A Reader's Digest Condensed Book in your choice of several cover colors and two pieces of coordinating color card stock to recover the inside covers are included as well
You'll find Jingle, Peace, Believe and even Naughty and Nice kits... the latter two would be a great duo to place near stockings hung by the chimney with care... :)

Carol Fisher of Etsy shop Holiday Spirits Decor in Illinois offers the cutest New England-inspired putz house ornament kits imaginable. Sturdy Bristol board components arrive pre-cut and scored, ready for you to fold and add your own touches. Choose from individual houses or village sets of four. They are pretty-in-white or decorate a winter wonderland... learn how via Carol's popular glitter and snow tutorial. A bottle brush tree and wreath in your choice of colors, ribbons, patterned snowflake vellum and silver tinsel are included.
The Happy Camper DIY Putz Kit is equally adorable and contains similar supplies.
Toy designer Mari Richard's Smallful Etsy shop in Minnesota offers an appealing set of four dimensional tree ornaments as a printable download. There's a Santa diorama, a deer diorama, a Santa and a friendly smiling tree. Print on heavy cardstock and follow the assembly instructions. Just provide your own needle and string.
If friendly sheep or polar bears are your jazz, Silvie of Etsy shop French Melody has you covered. Print out as many animals as you like (trees too) to string on a garland or stage on a mantel as an Advent calendar. You supply paper, scissors and tape or glue.
Tetsuya Watabe, a paper engineer in Japan and owner of Etsy shop Kamimodel creates kawaii paper toys like this clever, yet tiny deer head trophy [currently not available, but contact Tetsuya to inquire]. Only 6.5 inches tall, it arrives as a kit with instructions, pre-cut parts in a variety of paper colors - metallic silver and gold are shown but there are bright colors too - and plastic connectors. You could even dress it up with a jingle bell ribbon garland.
Colorado paper artist Helen Hiebert's 2017 paper crafting calendar was so well-received, she's created a 2018 Twelve Months of Paper Calendar [no longer available]. Each month details a project that the whole family will enjoy. A list of needed materials and tools, step-by-step photos, templates and easy-to-follow instructions are included.
Rather than source your own supplies, Helen offers a deluxe package that includes a curated collection of papers from around the world, plus other necessary materials.
Last, but certainly not least, are these sweet laser cut songbird ornaments to stitch and assemble via instructions by Stefani Tadio of Stefani Tadio Paper Art [site no longer available] in upstate New York.
