Spotlight on Paper: 10 More Great Etsy Design Awards Finalists

Here's a look at ten more Etsy Design Awards Finalists that utilize paper (previous ten). The program is the online marketplace's first-ever global awards, and how nice it is to see that quite a large number of the nominees are paper art. The winners will be selected by a panel of judges in September. Best of luck to all, but honestly, it's pretty darn wonderful just to have been nominated considering the number of handmade items available on Etsy!

pink, red, purple, green, and gold woven paper wall art hanging above wood table and white chairs

Jennifer Bell of Jennifer Bell Art in Brisbane creates woven and cut paper art, collages, and pattern paintings. It's difficult to choose a favorite as each piece is special, but this art canvas nominee, wrapped with recycled paper strips and painted in red, blue, and pink acrylics with gold paper accents, is a showstopper. Within its beauty is the ironic reference of destruction caused by mining in the West Australian desert.

jungle cake paper cut topper with monkeys and foliage

Rosemary Cheetham of Rosie and the Boys in Bedford, UK designs papercut party decorations, garlands, confetti, and cards. Her finalist entry is this cute safari cake topper composed of layered, laser cut paper along with food-safe lollipop and bamboo sticks... perfect for a child's jungle-themed birthday party. It's just one part of a party package that includes monkey cupcake toppers, tropical leaf confetti, and a tropical leaf garland.

custom paper cut portrait features a couple with child

Patricia Lima of Purple Paper People in Toronto, Canada has been featured on this blog previously and so I was pleased to see her paper cut custom family portrait was chosen as a finalist. Patricia works carefully with each client to achieve just the right result... no detail is too small and yes, pets are considered family members too!

lime and white green patterned wallpaper in kuna design

Angela Naomi of Peacock & Olive, a print design studio in St. Louis, Missouri, chose this striking lime green removable wallpaper with a design inspired by the Kuna culture of Panama as her submission. What a great time saver it is to be able to fully remove the paper with no residue if you're a renter or just enjoy refreshing your living space often. Peacock & Olive's wallpapers and gift wrap are printed on FSC-certified papers with water-based inks and are fully recyclable.

rustic paper pulp bowl in black and copper

Karla of Franky and J. Designs in Marstons Mills, Massachusetts makes so many pretty things. In addition to this finalist entry, an eye-catching black and copper colored recycled paper pulp bowl that is painted and then varnished, check out her crepe paper and paper mache flowers, pendant lights, planters, and wedding stationery too.

custom illlustrated wedding portrait stationery of couple as seen in photograph

Speaking of weddings, not surprisingly quite a few of the paper finalists are wedding-related items since stationery usually plays a part in the special occasion. Fransisca Edwina Tuis of Belle Pivoine in Pringy, France creates custom portrait illustrations that can be customized in so many ways and make ideal gifts. She works from your photographs and shares the completed art digitally for approval before it is shipped.

temporary tattoo of man and woman's faces placed on back of hand

Lise Grossmann of Lili Mandrill in Brix, France offers something that you might not have thought of... she will sketch a couple's portrait from a photograph and turn it into a temporary tattoo to give to guests as a personalized wedding favor. Clever!

wedding invitation featuring couple's illustrated color portrait

Pepper and Joy in Paris submitted an illustrated printable custom wedding portrait that was chosen as a finalist. It's a nifty item because not only can the flower and eye colors be specified and a pet added, but the design is sent as a digital file to be printed as you wish, rather than snail-mailed.

Minimalist Wedding Invitation Set

Laura Mensinga of the Gloam in Toronto, Canada creates wedding stationery in an editorial style, perfect for the couple with modern sensibilities. This attention-getting Minimalist finalist is available in black and white or six pastel shades, and similar to Pepper and Joy above, the designs are sent as print-ready digital files after proof approval.
