Three Quilling Artists, Three Distinctive Styles

It never fails to astonish me that quillers continue to devise new ways of shaping simple strips of paper with exceptional results. Enjoy this introduction to the diverse styles of three talented artists, and then I encourage you to see more of their work via the links.

The botanical paper art of Anna Chiara Valentini in Rome is lush, elegant, and crafted with precision... here she has captured the beauty of irises. Educated as an architect, Anna Chiara, a self-taught quiller since 2014, creates custom designs from her home studio. Follow along on Instagram where she is @annachiara_creations.

I came across twirling dervish Karl Stedman in Dorset, UK via the Contemporary Quilling group on Facebook and then found him on Instagram. Karl's dimensional designs contain thousands of tight coils, and sometimes ring coils and sculpted coils as well. Repetition figures heavily in each modern composition. Some pieces are colorful, quite large, and have touches of silver or copper leaf.

colorful quilled betta fish in white shadow box frame

Carol in Houston, Texas of Etsy's GTLand describes her quilled designs as 'meticulous' and 'a burst of captivating colors'... I couldn't agree more. This graceful betta fish is exquisite, as are all of the flowers and animals currently in her shop.

If you suspect that photo editing creates the color shading, have a look at customer reviews. You'll see several photos submitted by purchasers that attest to Carol's talent, along with statements such as "One of the most beautiful things I've ever bought" and "The photos do not do the workmanship, vibrancy and quality justice. Spectacular statement piece."
