Summer Styles in Paper: Five Jewelry Artists Celebrate the Season

Summer is the absolute best time of year to wear paper jewelry... think about it: gorgeous, lightweight statement pieces are no longer buried under winter coats and chunky scarves. It's time to show them off for all the world to see!

To inspire your seasonal wardrobe, I've rounded up five talented makers who are pushing the boundaries of wearable paper art.

A close-up of elongated, teardrop-shaped paper earrings crafted from lavender Italian crepe paper with a delicate, linear texture. The bottom tips are heavily coated in sparkling silver and gold glitter, mimicking morning dew. Two loose crepe paper petals lie nearby on a white surface.

Botanical Elegance: Løvendahl Handmade

I first came across Danish paper artist and workshop leader Løvendahl Handmade on Instagram and was captivated by her likelike paper florals. But when I noticed Mette is using her talented hands to make paper earrings as well, I couldn't wait to share her creations.

A pair of statement earrings featuring cascading, tiered scales or leaf shapes hanging from silver hooks. Each paper scale is a bright fuchsia pink on the back and edges, and painted with a metallic gold finish on the front. They are being held by a white porcelain classical statue.

She uses a digital cutting machine to precision-cut individual petals from premium Italian crepe paper. From there, each small petal is sanded, lacquered for durability, shaped, and assembled by hand. The results are light, lovely, and perfect for a breezy summer day.

Geometric Delights: Sally Prangley

A long, modern chain necklace titled The Serpentine, constructed with rectangular links made from folded, multicolored paper strips in shades of green, blue, orange, yellow, and red, bound together with slim stainless steel wire loops.

Next up is Seattle-based artist Sally Prangley, who was featured on this blog about a year ago and continues to create such appealing work. She has a knack for treating paper as a structural medium by adhering colorful pieces to stainless steel wire. Her conversation-starter necklaces feel tribal, modern, and dare I say, high-fashion all at once.

A geometric link necklace titled The Triangle, featuring a series of hollow, triangular paper segments made from a black and white textured pattern. The triangles are interconnected by long, minimalist stainless steel wire frames with a matching triangular clasp.

The multicolor necklace is called The Serpentine and the black and white one is The Triangle. All of those teeny white lines are slivers of paper!

You'll find an array of art objects on her website, Sally Prangley... have a look. On Instagram she is @sallyprangley.

Vivid Miniature Collages: Erin Perkins Curet

Close-up of large, circular statement earrings featuring whimsical quilled sun faces. The faces are detailed with pink cheeks, crimson lips, and blue eyes on a mottled pink background, framed by a border of tight orange and pink paper coils and triangular quilled sun rays.

Erin Perkins Curet in Oregon, who you might recall once developed a popular line of quilling strips and tools called Little Circles that was featured here a number of times, has turned her attention to creating a daily pair of brightly colored paper earrings. Many of the styles are intricately quilled, while others are tiny, detailed collages, applied beautifully on both the fronts and backs.

A pair of drop earrings shaped like teardrops, featuring miniature paper collage art inside a thick white paper frame. One earring depicts a light green quilled sailboat with a white sail floating on a blue textured sea against a warm pink, orange, and white sunlit sky.

Erin sells her art in the Portland Artistic Gallery and also via her website, Erin Perkins Curet. On Instagram she is @erinperkinscuret

Upcycled Wonders: Devi Chand

A close-up view of a smooth, rigid bangle bracelet meticulously crafted from upcycled paper strips showing portions of a vintage world map. Visible text on the colorful map segments includes geographic names like "Reggio d," "Natal," and "Varna."

Devi Chand of Bengaluru, India is another talented returning artist to the blog. She makes an array of eye-catching jewelry from upcycled paper...  there's always something new and attractive on her website, papermelon, whether you are looking for earrings, bracelets, or necklaces - and worldwide shipping is completely free.

Fan-shaped dangle earrings constructed from a row of tightly rolled, tapered paper beads. The beads feature vibrant, multicolored horizontal stripes in rainbow shades of green, yellow, purple, blue, and red, suspended from a sky-blue waxed cotton cord arch attached to silver ear wires.

Devi's World Map bracelet would make a fine gift for an avid traveler, and she offers it as a necklace too. Meanwhile, her multicolored Sunny Rainbow paper bead earrings, reminiscent of fans and accented by a sky blue waxed cotton cord and sterling silver hooks, are guaranteed to draw compliments. Devi shares, "Wear them as a colorful testament to the beauty of diversity, spreading positivity wherever you go."

Sculptural Marvels: Cléo Raksanyi

Finally, I simply can't resist featuring Cléo Raksanyi's origami jewelry! Beautiful items in her Etsy shop, Cleo's Origami [affiliate link], have graced All Things Paper previously, and so a return spotlight is in order. Originally from France and now living in Canada, her French roots shine through in her chic, precise aesthetic.

A pair of elegant origami leaf earrings made from peachy-pink paper accented with tiny, shimmering metallic gold polka dots. The paper is folded into crisp, tight accordion pleats that taper into a sharp point at the bottom, suspended from gold ear wires.

This pair of peachy-pink and metallic gold origami leaves is a fantastic example of her work. While the sculptural design is a classic, this particular warm colorway feels summery.

A delicate origami ornament shaped like a carousel horse, folded from cream-colored paper with an elegant gold floral pattern. The horse features a decorative, laser-cut metallic silver wing attached to its side and is suspended from a gold cord adorned with amber and silver beads.

And lastly, just look at this tiny carousel horse! While technically intended as an ornament, I can easily picture it converted into a whimsical necklace pendant or worn as a singular statement earring. Fortunately, Cléo welcomes custom requests. I like to think the horse is a nostalgic nod to the historic carousels often found in French town centers.

Keep up with Cléo's latest designs on Instagram where she is @cleosorigami.
