Quilled Lavender

I'm crazy about lavender and one of my dreams is to visit Provence when the fields are in bloom. For right now though, the few plants I put in alongside our house will have to do. Because they tend to spill over the sidewalk a bit, the scent wafts up when I brush against the stems while walking past - love that! Here's a photo taken when the flowers were in their prime last week.

Lavender

I was inspired to quill some lavender in different shades of purple...

Quilled Lavender

because it's nice to be reminded of the real thing all year long.

Quilled Lavender

The silk moire-effect background paper was a sheet I printed out from a wallpaper site. I'm not sure if the link to that exact paper still exists, but you'll find loads of other papers to choose from here. Just click on any book title that strikes your fancy and then you can page through it... all of the wallpaper patterns open up to nearly full page size.

From afar (Or as far as you were in the first photo) you achieved a remarkable resemblance to the real lavender. A sunning piece of work.

So pretty, Ann! I really like how you used multiple colors in the flowers. I love lavender and the big fat bumble bees it attracts.

Cool! I love purple =) And the way you arranged the shades is just awesome! One shade for the roll and another for the outlining is a great idea! Very inspiring work!

The quilling is so delicate! I don't see anyone growing lavender near me. It's too bad and must smell lovely!
