Holiday Paper Decorations at the White House - 2015

Each year I look forward to seeing pics of holiday decorations at the White House. Paper ornaments are often included and 2015's decor doesn't disappoint. The theme A Timeless Tradition is carried out in a multitude of elegant ways and repurposes items from the White House holiday collection... only ten percent of the decorations are newly made, quite an achievement considering there are 62 trees and more than 70,000 ornaments!

Favorite Etsy Handmade Christmas Cards, Gift Wrap and Gifts

It looks like Santa's workshop at my kitchen table... I've been making more paper ornaments. Who knew I would turn out to enjoy paper folding as much as rolling? Not me! There's another project underway too, but it will have to wait until after Christmas to be mentioned here because, you know, surprises.

Meanwhile, I'll show you three batches of cards I ordered (bartered actually, in exchange for ad space) from Etsy sellers who are just da bomb!

Paper Sculpture by Patty Grazini - Tributes/Reliquaries Based on Notable Women of Venice 1450-1755

Each autumn for the past ten years, paper artist Patty Grazini has introduced a collection based on historical figures at Curtis Steiner Gallery in Seattle. This year's show is titled Tributes/Reliquaries Based on Notable Women of Venice 1450-1755. Lest you think that sounds textbook-dry, put the thought away... Patty's work is fascinating. I'm delighted she wrote to share how she went about creating these remarkably detailed objects.

Origami Ornament Techniques: Tips for Success

I've been noticing lots of origami ornaments on Instagram lately... baubles that would be pretty displayed all year round depending on your paper choices. I was inspired to make three styles and would like to share tips I discovered along the way, as well as my favorite video ornament tutorials.

DIY Himmeli Paper Bugle Bead Ornaments

This past year I noticed lots of geometric hanging objects cropping up on design blogs... large structures of metal tubing and used as room decor. It turns out the name is himmeli (him'-meh-lee) and they originated as Finnish Christmas decorations made of straw. I was inspired to turn some pretty metallic papers I'd been gifted into himmeli tree ornaments... nice to wear on a long chain as a necklace too.
