I always feel a rush of excitement when researching (i.e. window shopping) exceptional paper jewelry for a Holiday Wishlist round up. Etsy's creative artisans are full of surprises, so I know I'll come across pieces that are special indeed. This time was no exception... I found new-to-me shops, longtime favorites, and unique, yet wearable designs.

Verde Alfieri Jewel Design

A colorful paper jewelry set by Verde Alfieri, featuring a necklace and a ring made from tightly spiraled, multicolored paper strips, on a white background.

First off, it wouldn't be a paper jewelry post without including something made by Verde Alfieri in Milan, Italy - she never runs out of stunning ideas. I spotted these signature spiral beauties in warm winter colors on her Instagram grid, but you can contact Verde via Alfieri Jewel Design to place a custom order.

Qlims Artt

A pair of round, black and white paper earrings from QlimsArtt with a graphic flower-burst pattern and a sparkling silver-gray center.

I had such trouble choosing my favorite earrings crafted by Ina from Qlims Artt in Slovenia, as each pair is playfully funky and bound to chase away the winter blues!

A pair of modern, geometric paper earrings from QlimsArtt, split into solid teal and a white section with black 'doodline' script.

Black Flower and Petrol Doodline are hand painted, protected with varnish for water resistance, and have stainless steel ear wires.

Kalaap

A pair of festive paper earrings by Kalaap, woven in a red and silver striped 'boondoggle' style, with silver findings.

To make sure you're feeling festive, Shanu of Kalaap in North Carolina offers red and silver earring in a variety of styles. I've always loved the look of rotating boondoggle weaving and think the silver findings at the top and bottom of this columnar pair are a great touch. The hooks are sterling silver.

A pair of stacked paper bead earrings by Kalaap, with a bright red cone on top of a larger, textured silver cone.

Shanu's pair of red and textured silver paper bead earrings are perfectly rolled and will feel light as a feather as they swing gently from your earlobes.

OPOESY

A pair of origami dove earrings by OPOESY, made from blue and yellow washi paper, hanging inside large, gold teardrop-shaped frames.

Camille of Etsy shop OPOESY in Lyon, France creates such pretty origami jewelry that appears ever so delicate, yet the folded designs are known to be surprisingly sturdy. These origami doves, for which she uses Japanese washi, are centered in findings that resemble spun gold.

A pair of mismatched origami crane earrings by OPOESY, made from dark blue patterned paper, one hanging from a simple hook, the other inside a gold hoop.

This mismatched set of paper crane earrings is sure to be noticed and admired, along with Camille's handsome red packaging.

Monday Morning Press Co

A pair of modern paper earrings from Monday MorningPressCo, featuring a gold stud, a brushed gold half-moon, and a larger semi-circle with an animal print.

Another fine maker whose line of paper earrings I'm forever keeping an eye on is Natalie Monday of Monday Morning Press Co in Virginia. You'll find on-trend animal print styles galore in the shop, along with multicolored boho earrings in an array of fun shapes.

Malena Valcarcel

A delicate necklace by Malena Valcarcel, featuring a fan-folded origami pendant made from book pages, resting on an open book.

I've admired Malena Valcarcel's paper art for the longest time. Not only does she make lovely paper jewelry, but also paper miniatures, matchbox art, and book sculptures. (Her altered book art was previously featured.)

A person wearing a wide, modern paper art bracelet by Malena Valcarcel, featuring black ovals on a cream-colored, textured background.

Enjoy a virtual browse in her eponymous shop in Spain, Malena Valcarcel, where you'll find eye-catching pieces like this dramatic book art bracelet (see a brilliant red version here) and an eco-chic origami altered book necklace (above).

Michele with a Single L

Whimsical paper earrings from Michele with a Single L, displayed on a colorful, painted backing card of a woman, with the text 'Life is Short. Buy the earrings.'

Whimsical paper jewelry from Michele with a Single L in Michigan is bound to bring a smile. I'm giving artist Michele Lutz an originality award for mounting each pair of hand-painted dangle earrings (and there are many choices!) on a delightful backing card that she also paints. Example One and Example Two. The earrings have designs on both sides.

Mayumi Origami

It wouldn't be the holidays on this blog without bringing the newest paper jewelry of Mayumi Origami to light. Mayumi Fukuda's designs make such elegant gifts. Each hand folded, water resistant piece is composed of silk screened Japanese chiyogami washi. The metal components are 925 silver and high quality stainless steel; also available with 24K gold plating.

A colorful MayumiOrigami mosaic necklace, with a diamond-shaped pendant made of folded Japanese washi paper in blue, green, and pink.
New this holiday season are two new colorways of the cranes pattern. The black pattern (829) has proven to be so popular, that Mayumi has added golden (828) and blue (830). Any jewelry design in the shop, not just the Mosaic style necklace shown here, can be made with the new papers. Contact Mayumi to set up a custom listing for the styles that catch your eye.

Mayumi assured me that sending to the U.S. is possible despite the current tariff situation:

  • Your order will arrive in the U.S. from Germany in just 2-4 working days.
  • The shipping cost depends on the number of items purchased and your location. (The cost will be the same whether you purchase one or two pairs of earrings, or a necklace and earrings set.)
  • Send Mayumi a message via the shop to receive a quote. Express shipping will include payment of custom duties and taxes.

Kate T Fisher Art

A pair of long, rectangular abstract earrings by Kate T Fisher Art, featuring a colorful, layered collage of painted paper in teal, black, and red, hanging from a paintbrush.

Kate Fisher of Kate T Fisher Art in Portland, Maine uses gouache on watercolor paper to paint striking abstract designs. She then cuts each one into pieces and assembles them, decoupage-style, onto archival mat board. The earrings are consequently one of a kind.

A pair of square, patchwork-style earrings by Kate T Fisher Art, made from paper painted with abstract patterns in green, blue, and purple, with amethyst bead dangles.

To dress up this patchwork pair, Kate suspended amethyst beads on sterling silver wire. Lightweight, water resistant, and delivery is free - a win-win-win!

A three-dimensional himmeli heart shape, made from blue paper beads or tubes, sitting on a green and purple bird-patterned fabric.

One last thing: I heard from a newsletter subscriber, Ilona in Germany, who enjoys making paper bead jewelry. Recently, she has been teaching herself to make himmelis and sent me this photo. She would love to hear from others in Germany who are working with paper. If you would like to get in touch with her, Ilona's email address is il19@online.de.

Try your hand at making versatile himmelis as pendants, tree ornaments, or mobiles: Here's how.
