8 New and Exciting Paper Art and Paper Craft Books

It's always fun to discover just released and upcoming books in the paper craft and paper art realms. Enjoy this round up that includes eight new titles about making paper wildflowers, decorating your home with 3D models, weaving wow-worthy baskets, meeting worldwide paper artists, and more.

Paper Joy for Every Room: 15 Fun Projects to Add Decorating Charm to Your Home (Schiffer; paperback; 144 pages) by Laure Farion includes colorful, imaginative ideas. Make inexpensive paper craft models to liven up your living spaces and parties. The whale piggy bank and llama mobile are so darn cute! There's much to see on Laure's Instagram feed, Papier Papier Papier... she's one busy paper crafter.

A Beginner's Guide to Paper Wildflowers: Learn to Make 43 Beautiful Paper Flowers (Tuttle; paperback and Kindle; 144 pages) is filled with realistic pretties along with 250 full-size templates. Paper artist and author Emiko Yamamoto shows how to shape blossoms, stems, and leaves from origami paper.

The flowers are arranged by season and the instructions lead you through the process step by step. I'm eyeing the primrose and violet as that's where Delaware's growing season is at the moment.

The Papercraft Ideas Book (Ilex Press, paperback and Kindle; 176 pages) by paper cutter and illustrator Jessica Baldry (@jessicabaldrydesigns on Instagram) is loaded with inspiration. Not a how-to book, it shows techniques via eighty examples of a wide range of projects by popular paper artists such as Hannah Nunn, Raya Sader Bujana, and Clare Pentlow (previously featured on this site).

The Art of Contemporary Woven Paper Basketry: Explorations in Diagonal Twill (Schiffer; hardcover; 176 pages) by Dorothy McGuinness won't be released until September 28, 2021, but can be pre-ordered. I can vouch for the beauty of her work (previously featured) as I had the pleasure of seeing it at a museum exhibit... there's no doubt in my mind that the book will be gorgeous too.

Quillers will relate because she uses 3mm strips of painted paper that she cuts with a pasta machine.

You might remember Karla Lim who designed an extremely popular Father's Day card tutorial along with her friend Sheryl Yen. Karla went on to become a calligrapher with a huge Instagram following. She's now written a lovely book for brand new calligraphers, Creative Calligraphy Made Easy: A Beginner's Guide to Crafting Stylish Cards, Event Decor and Gifts (Page Street Publishing; paperback and Kindle; 176 pages).

Paperists: Infinite Possibilities in Paper Art (Gingko Press; paperback) is a hefty tome (256 pages!) that will be released on April 13.

It is not a how-to book, but features abundant inspiration via interviews with an array of paper artists, such as JUDiTH+ROLFE, Zim + Zou, and Yulia Brodskaya (all previously featured), and includes images of their work.

Tuttle Publishing can always be counted on to bring new origami titles to folding enthusiasts. Here's Fantastic Origami Sea Creatures: 20 Incredible Paper Models (hardcover and Kindle; 112 pages) by Hisao Fukui. The projects range from simple to complex... for example, a simple goldfish and challenging jellyfish.

Because enthusiasm for all things Harry is still going strong, I'll conclude with Harry Potter Crafting Wizardry: The Official Harry Potter Craft Book (Insight Editions; hardcover and Kindle; 192 pages) with reservation as it is not entirely about paper crafting.

However, there are at least several clever paper projects among twenty five that would be fun for any devoted Harry fan, including making pop-ups and this 3D Hedwig mobile, not to mention behind the scenes trivia and film stills that any devoted Potterhead would appreciate.
