Quilling Video Chat and Novel Woven Paper

I have three brand new paper art, paper craft, and paper jewelry items of interest to share with you today... a woven paper heart I made over the weekend that you can make too, pretty paper jewelry examples, and a video in which I sat down with Charlotte Marshall of The Quilling Quarter to talk all things paper.

First up is the decorative paper heart that Helen Hiebert used as an example in a class she hosted on Zoom last week to introduce her upcoming E-course, Weave Through Winter. I enjoyed hearing her talk about paper weaving while showing a variety of projects... each one is different than the next!

Just several simple supplies are needed for paper weaving...
even copy paper will be fine

She led attendees through the steps of making a paper heart, and if you missed the class, the replay is posted on YouTube, Woven Paper Valentine. I had fun making one on Saturday with a couple of origami and gilded papers I had on hand and shared my progress via Instagram Stories... here are a few of the pics I snapped along the way.

The scary part - freehand cutting
(can't recall the last time I cut paper hearts...
turns out it's like riding a bike)

Tweezers and a pointy tool definitely came in handy while weaving

Please ignore the miraculous color changing papers, haha...

Alessandra Fabre Repetto, whose eco-friendly paper mache jewelry and special event paper flower displays were spotlighted in October, asked what she could send me in exchange as a thank you... so nice of her!

I chose this necklace of chunky pastel beads from her Etsy shop and requested she send it to my sister as an early Christmas gift. It traveled all the way from Rome to Florida quickly, but somehow she resisted opening it until Christmas Day and sent this photo that shows how great it looks with her outfit... perfecto! (I'm also admiring the blue sky and leafy tree as it's snowing like mad here in Delaware.)

Another paper jewelry artist who makes special pieces is Francesca Vitali. I spotlighted her woven paper jewelry in December and hosted an Instagram giveaway of vivid dangle earrings. In exchange for helping to promote her new website, Francesca Vitali Paper Jewelry, I chose this black and white dotted paper bead necklace... I love its dramatic simplicity.

Like Alessandra, Francesca is frequently coming up with unique designs... how glorious are the colors of this modern Quattro Necklace? They have me longing for summer.

Lastly, I had the pleasure of chatting with Charlotte Marshall of The Quilling Quarter early in January about this paper-centric chapter of my life. What a lot of fun it was to look back on quilled pieces I've made and the variety of artists who have been featured on the blog, but especially it was amazing to realize via her questions just how much time and effort Charlotte had put into researching my past... she is a terrific interviewer.

As I told her, "I admire the ways you are bringing new quilling information to light... your enthusiasm for the art is infectious!" Subscribe to The Quilling Quarter videos to see more artist interviews, Charlotte's own quilling projects, and book reviews. She is on Instagram, @the_quilling_quarter.
